Formed at the back-end of the British invasion, they somehow made everything bigger, bolder and brasher than it had been before. Even at this distance, it's a name that somehow conjures up majesty.
After all, nearly every one of the hundreds of Zeppelin imitators used this record, with its lack of dynamics and its pummeling riffs, as a blueprint. Led Zeppelin's best songs: 10-1 Led Zeppelin. While Led Zeppelin II doesn't have the eclecticism of the group's debut, it's arguably more influential. Page wrote most of Led Zeppelin’s music while Plant generally supplied the lyrics. Of the remaining six songs, two sport light acoustic touches ("Thank You," "Ramble On"), but the other four are straight-ahead heavy rock that follows the formula of the revamped blues songs. "Whole Lotta Love," "The Lemon Song," and "Bring It on Home" are all based on classic blues songs - only, the riffs are simpler and louder and each song has an extended section for instrumental solos. Jimmy Page still provided layers of guitar overdubs, but the overall sound of the album is heavy and hard, brutal and direct. Not only did the short amount of time result in a lack of original material, it made the sound more direct. While the gist of this 600 page volume are the songs, it includes a treasure trove of additional information about the band (individually and collectively) that should appeal to most Zep fans.
Some of their most popular songs were bold rip-offs from other musicians. The Led Zeppelin channel is the band’s official YouTube home, featuring a catalog of official live performances, official music videos, Led Zeppelin History, archival footage, and Zeppelin. Since the group could only enter the studio for brief amounts of time, most of the songs that compose II are reworked blues and rock & roll standards that the band was performing on-stage at the time. While Led Zeppelin is responsible for legendary rock hits such as Stairway to Heaven, Kashmir, Ramble On, the Immigrant Song, and many more, not all of these hits were original or written by them. Recorded quickly during Led Zeppelin's first American tours, Led Zeppelin II provided the blueprint for all the heavy metal bands that followed it.
